about George Nelson Marshmallow Sofa
The Marshmallow Sofa
Designer George Nelson did not create the Marshmallow Sofa ? as it is stated very often ? during the upcoming sensational Pop Art motion, which was dominating the Arts in England and in America in the middle of the 1950s. Even though the Sofa is called ?first Pop Art design? of furniture. Rather, it was a coincidence: George Nelson and his assistant at the time Irving Harper got plastic panes from a not known inventor, that were built with a new procedure of production, that were very cheap and at the same time very durable. The designers experimented with these discs and in a way of playing they put eighteen discs together on a framework of metal ? the Marshmallow Sofa was born.
