about Charles and Ray Eames LCW Chair
The Eames LCW Chair
The LCW Chair is a chair belonging to the Plywood Group, designed by Charles and Ray Eames. At a first glance, it seems to be just a simple wooden chair, but if you get a closer view, you will see its outstanding construction. It consists of five wooden curved elements, of which two are used for the legs, one for the seat shell, one for the backrest, and one is used for the supporting panel, which brings all elements together. A lateral view shows the shaping following the aesthetical design claim as well as the cunning ergonomic design.
The Chair is a result of the collaboration from Ray and Charles Eames with their friend Eero Saarinen. They participated with the Plywood Group at the 'Organic Design in Home Furnishings Competition' of the Museum of Modern Arts in the Year 1940. Its topic was the fusion of nature and modern lifestyle.
